A Camping Trip With Isak

 *Ives is enjoying himself tremendously. It's been too long since he went camping, doing so again is a lot of fun--especially with a friend. (The fact that he has a friend is pretty amazing all by itself.) He enjoys pointing things out, and enjoys even more when Isak notices things for himself.*

We can go fishing tomorrow, if you would like? Or just swim, one way or the other.

"Ja, your survival instinct. It makes sense."

I usually do. Often more than most would like, in fact.

When they came across the river, Isak carefully set the things down far enough from the water's edge. He put his hands on his waist and glanced around, smiling to himself.

"Even if we do not catch anything, it will be nice to be outdoors."

You don't have this much nature where you live, then? I rarely find the outdoors itself exciting.

[isak_cederstrom]

"No, not really. Even back home in Sweden; we are surrounded by wilderness and nature, but Stockholm itself is very metropolitan. We have parks and that kind of thing, but you have to travel a bit to get to the real outdoors. And there is barely anything aside from the occasional park in New York and Providence."

There's a reason I don't go to cities that often. They're rather lifeless in their way.

"They are, that is true. I think that is part of what attracted me to them, though. Aside from having grown up in a city. I like being able to -- blend in, sort of. Though my height makes it somewhat hard for me to blend in anywhere completely."

I don't blend into crowds well these days. Eventually someone is bound to catch a glimpse of me eating, after all.

"You could probably get away with hiding it in New York, if you were careful."

Perhaps, but I don't have to be careful out here. There are very few witnesses in the middle of the wilderness, eh?

[isak_cederstrom]

"That is a good point," Isak replied with a smile. He grabbed one of the fishing poles and began rummaging in the tackle box. "Which lure is best, do you think?" he asked, gathering a few in his hand.

I tend to make those, yes. *He chuckles, then picks out two good lures and settles in to fish.*

"Tack," Isak replied, taking his lure to attach to the fishing pole. He settled in and cast his line.

[colonelcannibal]

*He does the same, then takes out a couple of small snacks to eat while they wait for the fish to bite.* I'll just assume you don't want any.

[isak_cederstrom]

"That would be a safe assumption," Isak said with a laugh, glancing over at him. He brought his attention to his pole again and jerked it back a little to entice the fish.

*Ives is less concerned with actually catching fish, satisfied to dangle his feet in the water and watch birds.* Would you believe that I get the occasional salesman or religion-peddler even out here? People can be so stubborn . . .

"Really? All the way out here?" Isak asked, slowly reeling in his line before casting it out again. "Surely they cannot expect many people to be out this way to convert or swindle."

It's not very common, but people are very weird creatures. At least I get a few good meals out of it.

"Do you think they have people back home who wonder where they have gone?"

[colonelcannibal]

Oh, probably. What of it? Everyone dies eventually, and morals are of no use to me.

"That is a good point, I suppose," Isak said, bobbing his line in the water a few times. "The person who went missing will simply be one of those family legends, handed down throughout the generations."

[colonelcannibal]

Not all that many generations. People forget things awfully easily, and all things are lost with time.

[isak_cederstrom]

"I cannot speak from experience, so I will bow to your knowledge." Isak's line began to tug, and he sat up with excitement. He began to reel in his line, wondering what was going to be at the end.

*He watches happily as his friend pulls in a trout.* Looks good enough to eat, hmm?

[isak_cederstrom]

"Åh, what good luck!" Isak exclaimed, grabbing the line to hold up the wriggling fish in the air. "I did not think I would really catch anything out here!" He was beaming from ear to ear. He carefully removed the hook from the fish's mouth, then glanced around. He grabbed a bucket, filled it with water, then placed the sloshing fish inside of it. He set it near him and rinsed his hands off in the river. "I have not had fresh fish like this in a long time. I am already excited to eat it."
