A Camping Trip With Isak

[colonelcannibal]

 *Ives is enjoying himself tremendously. It's been too long since he went camping, doing so again is a lot of fun--especially with a friend. (The fact that he has a friend is pretty amazing all by itself.) He enjoys pointing things out, and enjoys even more when Isak notices things for himself.*

We can go fishing tomorrow, if you would like? Or just swim, one way or the other.

The voice startled him slightly, but he recovered quickly. He gave a lazy wave.

"I apologize if I have kept you waiting; I would have been up earlier, if I had known."

[colonelcannibal]

It's fine, lad. I was just getting things ready. *He shrugs.* Plus, it's better if you're not there for my breakfast.

Isak sealed up the bags of trail mix and beef jerky, chewing up the last of his food. He stood from the chair and stretched his arms overhead.

"What are we doing today?"

[colonelcannibal]

I was thinking of going fishing, would you like that? Perhaps a bit of swimming afterwards.

[isak_cederstrom]

"I would love that!" Isak said brightly, his features lighting up with a broad smile. He gave another little stretch and disappeared to his room. He poked his head out. "Recommendations of what to wear?"

If you have anything good for wading in, that would probably be recommended.

[isak_cederstrom]

"Hmm. Okej." Isak popped back in and came back out a little while later wearing knee-length shorts and a t-shirt. He had hiking sandals on his feet, in addition to a pair of flip flops in his hand. He also had a rolled up pair of swim trunks. He looked at Ives and gave a little shrug. "Is this appropriate?"

That looks fine. You don't exactly need to look fancy, who will know the difference? *Says the man in uniform. Admittedly, he's not wearing it at the moment--but his casual clothes are casual for about 1865.*

[isak_cederstrom]

"I was more concerned with whether it would be activity-appropriate," Isak said with a laugh. "I was not as concerned about style." He carried a medium-sized, empty backpack and shoved his items in there, along with the bags of trailmix and jerky.

My way was more amusing, however. And yes, it's quite fine.

Isak slung his pack over his shoulder and smiled over at the Colonel.

"I am excited; I have not been fishing in ages."

[colonelcannibal]

Well then, I hope you have fun. Oh, and actually catching a fish would be nice too.

"Ja, that is the best-case scenario! Do we have bait and poles?"

[colonelcannibal]

*He responds by tossing over two poles and a small box of handmade lures.* I think that should just about cover it, don't you?

[isak_cederstrom]

"Oh," Isak said, catching one pole and the box. He dropped the other pole, but bent down to pick it up. "Perfect." He tucked it under his arm and then slung his backpack over his shoulder. "Are you ready to go?"

[colonelcannibal]

I am, yes. I don't exactly need much.

[isak_cederstrom]

"Okej," Isak said, making his way out of the door with the items in hand. He started walking, but then stopped to let the Colonel lead the way. He had no idea where we were going. "We are hiking there? Right?"

[colonelcannibal]

We are, yes. I was thinking of the river we went to the other day, the one near the cave. *He takes the lead, and is kind enough to walk rather slowly.*

[isak_cederstrom]

"Underbar," Isak replied, trailing behind the Colonel. He realized that Ives was going slower for his sake, and he appreciated the gesture. "Thank you, for going 'average human speed.' Otherwise I would get rather turned around."

[colonelcannibal]

You're welcome. Not that I mind taking the time to enjoy nature, particularly, eh?

[isak_cederstrom]

"Still, it is considerate of you, and I noticed it." Isak kept up a fairly rigorous pace; he loved getting out into nature and going for hikes. Still, he knew that even if he was at the peak of all performance, he would never match Ives' speed. He glanced around and took a deep breath in, letting the fresh air fill his body. He adjusted the items on his person and smiled at Ives. "Thank you again for inviting me out."

Gladly. It gets lonely out here, just me and the dead men.

Would you rather I carried those, by the way?

[isak_cederstrom]

"Ehm," Isak said, glancing down at what he had. He shook his head, looking back up. "I think I am okay. Thank you. If I need help, I will let you know."

Of course you're okay. That doesn't mean it isn't worth checking.

"Mm," Isak replied with a nod, continuing on behind Ives. "I think I am most looking forward to swimming."
