A Camping Trip With Isak

 *Ives is enjoying himself tremendously. It's been too long since he went camping, doing so again is a lot of fun--especially with a friend. (The fact that he has a friend is pretty amazing all by itself.) He enjoys pointing things out, and enjoys even more when Isak notices things for himself.*

We can go fishing tomorrow, if you would like? Or just swim, one way or the other.

Humans are foolishly destructive. Eventually they will run out of food entirely.

I hope it's not too soon, though. I need my prey, after all. *His smile is a deeply frightening thing.* I would eat you if I was hungry enough. I just hope I never am.

"Understood, Ives. I think I reconciled that in my head a long time ago. The fact that you hope you aren't, and are aware of not wanting to if it can be avoided, is enough to put me at ease."

Most people wouldn't accept that. It's nice to have, ah, an exception.

*He sighs.* We talk so casually of things falling apart, but if they ever really did you would not want to be anywhere near me. You would not be lucky enough to die.

"What do you mean? You would turn me into a wendigo?"

If it was just us, if there was no other food . . . lad, you would live in agony. *He sighs.* We both might, actually. Conservation of energy doesn't apply to the supernatural.

It would be . . . interesting to see how long we could live by biting each other. Horrible, but interesting.

"Well, if there were no food, I would probably just tell you to eat me. There would be no point in me attempting to survive if my dying meant that you would survive."

That is awfully kind of you. I don't think anyone has been that sanguine about my, ah, needs before.

"It would not make sense for both of us to die if one of us could live," Isak said with a light shrug. "And, as I said, if I had no hope of surviving, it might as well be me who perishes."

Sensible, but few people are when it comes to their own death.

Admittedly, I doubt you'd be as accepting if it actually got to that point.

"If I were dying and delirious, I doubt I would know much of what was going on. I think I would reach a point where I'd be begging for death to come more swiftly, rather than wait it out."

Aye, but you might not get as swift a death as you would like. Leaving you alive would keep you more fresh, I could eat all the best bits out of your still-warm body.

It wouldn't have to be painful, I could start by removing the parts of your brain that respond to discomfort . . l

"That would be appreciated," Isak said with a laugh. "I am suddenly reminded of that scene in one of the Hannibal movies, where he is eating the man's brain as he sits at the dinner table, and the man has no idea. If you could make it happen like that, it would be very kind of you.'

*He grins.* That does sound rather lovely, yes. If it ever comes to that, you won't know until you're too out of it to care. That much, at least, I can promise.

"Then we are in agreement," Isak said with a slight nod and laugh. "Let us hope it does not come to that. At least, I am hoping it does not come to that. There are still many things I would like to do before I eventually die."

There are always more things to be done or seen, trust me on that. I've given up on even trying to see it all.

"Really? I am a bit surprised, Ives."

I like my home. In any case, by the time you've seen everything, the place where you started has changed enough that you have to visit it again . . .

"Right! Is that not the exciting part of it? You get to stick around long enough to see those changes happen. I will be long dead before I get to."

It is, but it means that you'll never be able to see it all.

"I suppose it all depends on how you wish to view it. To me, and perhaps this is my mortality speaking, I think it is exhilarating to think that you will never run out of things to see. There will always be something to learn, something to do, something new."

But you'll miss so much, as well . . . can't see everything.

[isak_cederstrom]

"Yes, that is true. That, to me, is exciting. Even as an immortal, you could never see it all. It is kind of amazing, in a way."

It is kind of amazing, yes. Only God can see all, and who knows if He's even paying attention? He doesn't seem to be.

"Well, you already know my opinion on the theories of God. If such a thing exists, it is doing a terrible job."

I think He might be insane. He ordered us to eat Him, for a start.
